As the owner of the child care facility, it is your responsibility to make sure that your center follows the laws, and rules and regulations of your state.  You need to make sure that all laws are taken into account:

  • Have a monthly fire drill.  This is important to make sure the children and all your staff knows what to do in case of fire.  It is also vital that you have a signs and marks that are useful in case of emergency which are easy to see and understandable.

  • Have the playground inspected monthly.  It is important that this area is thoroughly inspected as children are playing here most of the time.  This area should be free from hazardous materials.  Children’s safety is very important and as the owner, you cannot afford to risk the safety of the children.

  • All paperwork must be in order.  From forms, contracts, checklist and other paperwork, this should be organized and kept in a safe place where it can’t be lost or damaged.    It is also important that these are organized as this will save your time in the event that you will need documents, forms and other files.

For your state’s child care rules and regulations please contact your state child care licensing agency.
