Martin House

Preschool in Austin, TX 78703

We are very happy that you have chosen us to be a part of your child’s life. We know that your child is the most important thing in your life and we take our responsibility very seriously.

The Martin House has a very humble background. We commenced operations in September 1985 with an enrollment of 10 children after our predecessor school (Forester-Holz) suspended operations. Peggy Turner and I had our hands full. Although things were running smoothly for the first few months we confronted the Austin real estate bust of 1986. Many of our initial parents lost their jobs and as a result we almost had to close operations ourselves. However we hung in there and by the middle of 1987 we had expanded across the street from our original location.

We expanded once again in 1993 with our third location on Oakland Avenue. However the technology downturn after the late 90s has forced us to consolidate all of our operations to the one location at 500 Oakland.

Our objective is to extend the very best care possible to your child. We seek to foster social emotional and academic growth. In most cases we staff in excess of legal minimum levels so that it is possible to extend more frequent individual attention to your child.

We will strive to provide and environment that is nurturing and one that develops a strong sense of self worth. Our limited class sizes promote individuality and allow for frequent one-to-one interactions. We will strive to give children a strong foundation for learning – one that will stay with them throughout the remainder of their lives.

Finally you will note that The Martin House is considerably smaller (i.e. less children) than most other licensed child care centers. This is not by accident. It is part of our philosophy that the limited size of the school promotes more individual attention and interaction with your child. We trust you will appreciate the relative smallness of our center and its home-like atmosphere.
