Children enrolled in all programs are regularly assessed with curriculum based tools that identify developmental progress and provide information for creating individualized education plans that encourage exploration and learning.

St. Mary Villa utilizes the Hawaii Early Learning Plan Profile and the Developmental Learning Materials curriculums which are both research based-supported programs with wide application in the field; these materials are also endorsed by the United Way for use in funded early childhood educational programs.

In all domains children are guided through the sequence of (1) exposure to new objects, people and experiences, (2) appreciation or joy in new objects, people and experiences, (3) engagement with objects, people and concepts and (4) personal mastery or adoption of new objects, people and experiences. Individual and group opportunities for learning and development include direct instruction, group interaction, and independent practice and facilitated creative play.

Each day is structured to provide focus in each domain in a comprehensive approach to child development for a balanced life. Progress is measured in regular observations and documented in reports to share with supervisors, families and evaluators in order to improve services and achieve identified goals.
