Springfield Learning Tree is a Certified Childcare Center serving children ages 3 months to 10 years.

It has always been a goal of the Learning Tree to become a home away from home for all children who enter it. Nurturing, quality staff members and balanced educational programs promote children’s healthy development. Communication between home and school, in both directions, is a key element of the Learning Tree’s success.

We know that finding quality child care can be a challenge. Not all day care institutions are alike. Learning Tree Day School, located in Springfield, Oregon, offers both preschool and after-school programs that help foster growth and confidence in your child. From infants to school-aged kids, we have a dedicated staff that enjoys teaching and nurturing your children. Our school is clean, spacious, and engaging inside, combined with a modern outdoor playground area. After-school care is available for kindergarten children, and we even bus to and from certain elementary schools in the Eugene-Springfield area.

Often disipline and punishment are used synonymously. However, there is a difference. That difference plays a big role in the kind of person each child becomes.

Discipline works better than punishment if you will do the following:

  • prevent problems by establishing rules of behavior
  • demonstrate coping skills – children react the same way you do
  • prepare a good environment – free of danger, toys accessible
  • schedule events with the child’s needs in mind
  • provide constructive, engaging activities so the child is not bored
  • be consistent and fair about rules
  • distract children from potential problems
  • remind children of rules
  • help children solve problems and make choices

When children are disciplined, they are shown positive alternatives rather than just told ‘no’. Good behavior is rewarded. Children who are disciplined feel successful and in control; children who are punished feel humiliated, and hide their mistakes. They tend to be angry and aggressive, and fail to develop self-control. They need to feel loved and respected if they are to become kind, confident, and considerate adults.
