When the Preschool first opened its doors to the community in 1975 it had an enrollment of 30 children. Today there are over 100 families, yet we continue to have the small family feel that we had those many years ago. The Preschool continues the tradition of diversity by introducing children of all faiths to school life. A feeling of connection is so important to young children, and at Shirat Hayam connection is infused throughout the building. The Preschool and the Congregation are a place for children and families to develop, connect, and feel at home.

The philosophy of education that we pursue at Shirat Hayam Preschool is based on the developmental theory of learning which advocates that children learn by doing rather than by formal rote learning. We advocate a playful, relaxed, non-pressured environment rich in experiences that foster, literacy, imagination, curiosity, creativity, and independence. We foster this growth by providing a safe, warm, and caring environment for your child that enables him/her to feel the freedom to experience all the classroom has to offer.
