Shepard Adventure Club

Shepard Elementary is located at 2616 Shepard Boulevard, Columbia, MO 65201. Shepard Adventure Club meets in the cafeteria, but we have daily access to the playground and the gym for active games. The average enrollment is 60 children AM/PM. We have 10 Site Assistants, including the Site Facilitator, that attend the local universities with a variety of majors. Snack is supplied in the afternoon as soon as the children are released from class. Each week a variety of clubs with different activities are available. Homework and reading time is always an option as well! We spend a lot of time outside on the playground equipment and soccer fields when the weather permits.

In the mornings, a parent or an authorized adult must initial the students in on a sign-in sheet. The sheets, printed in weekly increments, have columns for the student’s arrival time and for the the initials of the person bringing the student to Adventure Club. A Site Facilitator or Site Assistant will initial in the student in the afternoon; a parent or other authorized adult must initial them out in the afternoon, noting the time that they departed.

In addition to the sign in/out sheet we also use a “Where am I?” pocket charts to keep track of the students. The pocket chart has 4 categories: Outside, Cafeteria, Gym and Home. It is the students’ responsibility to change their own name tag when they arrive in the morning and afternoons and when they decide to leave one area for another. They must also inform a staff member when they leave one area for another; we utilize walkie-talkies so that we may communicate with one another and ensure a student’s arrival from one area to another.
Shepard Adventure Club is a great place for children to spend time before and after school. They are able to spend time with friends doing activities they enjoy in a positive, educational, and FUN environment. We offer a variety of activities from touch football outside, dramatic play in the carpeted area, games in the gym, wooden blocks and legos, a variety of arts and crafts and so much more!!!!
