We believe that learning happens naturally through the child’s purposeful interaction with specialized materials. Children who are given the opportunity to choose thier work practice and master it at their own pace will feel successful and develop a strong sense of self-worth and love of learning.
Montessori
Our program is based on the Montessori Philosophy. Each child is respected for their individual style of learning. Every child learns through the experience of active participation. Each experience develops the refinement of the senses Each child’s perception of the experiences is unique and personal. Some children learn by observing others before trying an activity. Others prefer to actively explore the environment immediately employing all their senses. Montessori materials are designed to do the teaching not the teacher. These didactic materials have qualities such as control of error and isolation of concept that make them a pleasure for the children to work with individually. Maria Montessori felt that the process of development was much more important than the end product. Montessori observed that most young children were not normalized when first coming into Montessori environment from their homes. Normalization is the process of a child moving from a state of undisciplined idleness and random activity to a state of inner peace. Montessori’s rich environment prepares the young child to “learn how to learn”. The materials are designed to refine and define concrete experiences so the child can later move on to abstract reasoning. The Montessori Pre-Primary/Kindergarten Curriculum is based on a three year cycle. Each year builds upon the last. By the begining of the third year the child has built a solid foundation for advanced learning.
