NACOG Head Start is a comprehensive, quality and unique program designed for eligible 3-5 year old children and their families. We meet the needs of children and families through the component areas of: Education, Social Services, Parent Involvement, Health, Dental, Nutrition, Mental Health, and Special Needs.

We specialize in family oriented services, developmentally appropriate practices, culturally diverse activities, advocacy and community involvement. Head Start is an excellent early childhood development program dedicated to helping families prepare for their future.

We believe that families are the foundation of our communities, and we believe in the betterment and enrichment of children in society. Our program is dedicated to supporting families in a positive and productive way.

We are dedicated to developing a partnership with families fostering self-esteem in parents, children and staff, and are guided by the principle that parents are their child’s first educator.

Our ultimate goal is to prepare and empower children and families for success by developing building blocks of self-reliance and stability.

Special Needs:
Elements of the Special Needs (Disability & Mental Health Component) are:
Screening related to gross & fine motor development, perceptual motor development; adaptive (interaction) skills; speech & language functioning as well as basic concept awareness.
Screening in the areas of social emotional development and behavioral interactions. Additional screenings for Early Head Start include temperament and parental stress.
Establish and maintain contractual relationships with community specialty provider that, at minimum, includes: Mental Health Consultants, Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Pathologists and Physical Therapists.
Coordinate and provide ongoing assurance of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with each of the local school district that our Preschool programs work with in.
In conjunction with Early Head State support the State level MOU with the Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP).
Provide technical support in disabilities, behavioral health to our Centers, Home Based Visitors & most importantly our families.
This component also has the opportunity to provide crisis intervention services in mental heath arena to a family, a child and/or our staff.

The Special Needs (Disabilities & Mental Health) component crosses all program lines within NACOG Head Start and therefore has the opportunity to work in collaboration within our service areas and many community partners.

The education staff at NACOG Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. The Head Start Education and Early Childhood Development Performance Standards are incorporated into all program options and settings. NACOG Head Start operates play-based, developmentally appropriate classrooms for infants, toddlers and pre-school children. We believe that children learn best by doing. The most important goal of our curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners. Our teachers encourage children to be active, inquisitive and creative.

NACOG Head Start uses The Creative Curriculum and The Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers. These resources were developed by Teaching Strategies, Inc. and offer quality early childhood curriculum materials for preschool children and for infants and toddlers. As required by Head Start Performance Standards, these resources are based on sound child development theories about how children grow and learn and are inclusive of children with disabilities.

Our curriculum is designed to give children a successful start in school by focusing on:
