Estrella Family Services offers both preschool and school age care at Gardner Academy. Our full day preschool curriculum based on individual developmental assessments is designed to prepare our children for school. We also participate in the “Raising a Reader” program which facilitates academic success and family bonding by providing our children with a weekly bag of books to take home for the week.

Our children further benefit from the constant influx of Santa Clara University students who act as role models and volunteer in each of our classrooms. Estrella Family Services is an academic extension of Santa Clara University’s Pedro Arrupe Center for Community Based Learning.

Our school age program offers opportunities for academic tutoring in addition to arts & crafts games and sports. All Estrella Family Services’ programs provide breakfast lunch and snack according to USDA Child Care Food program guidelines.

Estrella Family Services currently cares for approximately 700 children ranging in age from 3 to to 12. Our families are ethnically diverse working primarily low income (70% are at or below half of San Jose’s median income) and are mostly headed by single parents. For the majority of our families English is spoken as a second language. To meet our families’ needs we are open year-round from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. This promotes employment stability that leads to economic stability.

Kids to Camp’s or KTC’s mission is to promote the social emotional cultural and physical well being of limited income children and their families. Our goal is to make quality empowering camp experiences accessible to those who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Camp reaches far beyond the 5 to 12 day outdoor experience which includes activities enjoyed in nature such as swimming hiking and ropes courses. The child is placed in a positive healthy and safe environment that provides them the opportunity to make choices gain self-esteem and independence and to spend quality time with positive role models. Camp is the highlight of their year. The special memory of sleeping under the stars and singing around the campfire lingers long after summer fades away. The relief from urban pressure and the chance to join in the camp spirit allows these youths to participate in a happy healthy experience.
