The CHILDRENS CREATIVE & PERFORMING ARTS ACADEMY OF SAN DIEGO
is dedicated to developing the whole person. We commit ourselves to helping the child or young adult to develop a positive self-image and to develop a self directed and self-disciplined person.

In the Childrens House Primary and Elementry Divisions

our underlying philosophy follows the child development sequence of learning:

Imitation —> Exploration -→ Extension —> Creativity -LITERACY

Learning proceeds from the right brain hemispheric learning to integrating both hemispheres within the developmental sequence.

Children grow and develop in a non-graded non-competitive open classroom environment. Learning takes place both individually and in small cooperative learning groups. Montessori materials methods and philosophy as well as the Piagetian theory are implemented in the classroom. The child’s learning experience proceeds sequentially from the concrete “hands on experiences” to the abstract. The concept of “Mastery” is fundamental. Each child is given the chance to fulfill his or her’s potential possibilities to become an independent self disciplined secure and happy individual. The child’s natural desire to learn is nurtured and encouraged to grow.

In the Children’s Creative and Performing Arts CAPA Divisions (7th Grade-High School) students learn in a departmentalized yet individualized classroom environment. Many classes are multi-level to provide for the on-going needs of the students. Teachers in the CAPA Division believe in education as a working partnership between the student teachers and parent. Through this partnership students are encouraged to develop interests in both the arts and academics in a multi-disciplinary setting. Development of the physical being is emphasized through dance sports and physical education programs. The High school division is fully accredited by the Western Association of School and Colleges (WASC).

Each student is provided with a college-preparatory education design to produce a truly “well rounded” and well-prepared young adult.
