Sandy Bay Preschool

Preschool in Rockport, MA 01966

The Sandy Bay Preschool is a parent-cooperative, non-profit preschool open to children between the ages of 3 and 5. For forty years, Sandy Bay Preschool has successfully included parents in the educational process, benefiting the children and parents alike. Our children and parents emerge with new skills, friends, a sense of community, and the school succeeds by sending enriched families off to their next school experience.

Additionally, the Sandy Bay Preschool is committed to building community both among our families and, between our families and the surrounding community/town. Through the work we do together, our families forge strong bonds that persist well beyond the preschool years.

The Sandy Bay Preschool program is committed to giving each child positive educational opportunities that will develop social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth. We honor play as the childs work. We recognize that each child develops at his or her own pace and we respect individual progress. We seek to promote an ongoing love of learning. An emphasis is placed on recognizing learning as a process that continues throughout a lifetime.

The curriculum at Sandy Bay Preschool is based on principles of early childhood education that honor the unique capabilities of each young child. Recognizing that the young child is a sensory learner, we are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment that allows for exploration and experimentation in order to develop each childs own understanding of how the world works. We respect each child as an individual.

We believe it is our responsibility to facilitate the childs social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth through developmentally appropriate practices that emphasize process rather than product. Teachers nurture children’s sense of responsibility for themselves, for others and promote effective social skills.
