The “Montessori Method” developed by Dr. Maria Montessori is based on the belief that early childhood is the time when each child actively works to create the person he or she will someday become. Dr. Montessori believed that no human being is educated by another person but rather that each individual educates himself or herself. For this reason children should be provided with a well-prepared learning environment and allowed to explore it freely with an appropriate amount of responsibility given to them. Children are therby encouraged to develop self-confidence and a love of learning to prepare them for later years. The role of the Montessori teacher is to aid children in their natural development and to support them in developing his or her full potential. This is achieved by carefully observing each child in order to assess and meet their individual needs.
