As you stand at the doorway of the classroom you feel a sense warmth and security that welcomes and invites you into the environment. The sense of calmness andorder relaxes you and clears your mind. You are now able to concentrate and focus on your surroundings and it is amazing to see children in various sections around the room busy with movement and thought trained on the task at hand whether it be independent work or with peers. The guides or teachers have blended in with the environment only providing assistance when needed. They have become observers intent on learning about your child so that they may continually adapt the room with materials appropriate to your childs needs necessary to promote curiosity and interest of their own desire. This is what we aim to create here at Central Bucks Montessori.
If teaching is to be effective with young children it must assist them to advance on the way to independence. It must initiate them into those kinds of activities which they can perform themselves and which keep them from being a burden to others because of their inabilities. We must help them to learn how to walk without assistance to run to go up and down stairs to pick up fallen objects to dress and undress to wash themselves to express their needs in a way that is clearly understood and to attempt to satisfy their desires through their own efforts. All this is part of an education for independence
Respect observe listen and learn are basic principles that guide Central Bucks Montessori to create an environment that fit your childs individual needs. All children without regards to race color religious creed disability ancestry or national origin are born with the desire to learn. It is this respect and understanding for the child that allows us to give the child the freedom to be a child in a world created for them. Through the power of observation and listening to the childs words we are able to offer materials that will spark interest breed curiosity stimulate the senses there by leading the childs natural ability to learn and increasing the childs appetite for more.
At Central Bucks Montessori we must learn from the child since we are no longer children. Adults complicate matters that do not exist in the childs world. We are unable to think without simplifying a task because adults follow the laws of minimum effort to attain the maximum productivity. An adults goal is to use himself or herself to improve the environment. It is the end result that matters. For the child it is the process; the work that is being done that gives the child satisfaction and confidence. Children follow the rules of maximal effort to use the environment to reinforce improve and expand their concept of self. This work that defines the child is play.
