At Pickwick School the foundation of our philosophy is that young children learn best by doing. In using real materials children become active thinkers and creative explorers rather than passive learners.
It is through play carefully selected materials and a proper balance of teacher-directed activities versus child-directed activities that we are able to achieve strategic goals of our early childhood curriculum.
Our curriculum addresses goals in four major areas of development: Social Emotional Intellectual and Physical. Throughout the year our activities are designed to continually help children feel comfortable being part of a group; to help children develop a good sense of self-esteem; to encourage children to be enthusiastic learners by allowing them to test out their own ideas ask questions and figure out their own answers. Our curriculum addresses development of fine motor skills and we always set aside time to develop our gross motor skills in our very own playground.
