Glenelg United Methodist Church Preschool is a State of Maryland licensed Christian Preschool located in Glenelg, Maryland, off of Burntwoods Rd., in Howard County Maryland. We have been providing quality Early Childhood Education since 1988.
Here at GUMC, we believe that every student is a unique child of God. Accordingly, we try to Train up a child in the way they should go, (Proverbs 22:6) by providing a loving, Christian environment that is open to students of all faiths.
Our successful program is a result of dedicated, experienced Early Childhood Educators that share their expertise as well as their love of Christ with the students, their families, and each other. We utilize developmentally appropriate practices (Play with a Purpose) to encourage a love of learning in each one of our children.

GUMC Preschool emphasizes play with a purpose through developmentally appropriate practices. We feel the social/emotional component of a child’s development is the primary goal of Early Childhood Education. The progress of each child depends on their physical maturity, their stage of social emotional development, their cognitive ability, the experiences they have had, and the concepts they have mastered. This growth can not be hurried! However, the best incentive for children to succeed is to be in a loving, nurturing environment that continues to expose them to the necessary skills in a developmentally appropriate manner. We use a thematic approach here at GUMC. The themes listed below are used on a three year rotation and any cognitive skills we teach are taught through theme emersion. Evaluations are sent home in November, January and May. In January we hold optional Parent-Teacher conferences.
