Temple Emeth Early Childhood Center

Preschool in Denmark, ME 04022

The teachers at Temple Emeth create a warm and happy place for pre-schoolers to learn in a caring and positive atmosphere. As children bridge the gap from school to home, Temple Emeth guides them to a positive self-image while strengthening their social, emotional, cognitive and physical skills. Concrete, age-appropriate activities and experiences are planned to coincide with Jewish holidays and Jewish values. Projects stress the process rather than the product, emphasizing the accompanying sense of accomplishment and pride that comes with doing it yourself.

Based on the theory that children learn through play, classroom routines encourage active involvement and meaningful experimentation. Schedules are designed to balance structure and free choice, as well as active and relaxed periods. Recognizing that children grow at their own pace, Temple Emeth treats each child as an individual, moving them forward one step at a time. We teach a love of learning by allowing children to feel successful without pressure.

Temple Emeth values the active involvement of parents through committee and family participation. The children see their parents as important and concerned members of their school environment and parents are provided with opportunities to see their children interact with their teachers and classmates.

Nursery School classes are available for children from ages two (by November 1, 2010) through four. For even younger children there is a Mommy & Me program (18-24 Months old by September 1, 2010) and a Transitional 2s Program. The summer camp program is available for children ages two to four, as well as five year olds about to enter Kindergarten.

Some of the unique features of Temple Emeth’s Early Childhood Center include small class sizes, low teacher/student ratio and a warm, nurturing environment. There are many special activities planned throughout the year including storytelling and songs to celebrate Shabbat and the Jewish holidays. A movement specialist meets with the children weekly to help them develop basic tumbling moves, balance beam techniques, beginning ball skills, parachute activities, and creative movement. Local trips are scheduled for the four year old classes. Playground time is scheduled daily on either our newly resurfaced state of the art playground or in our large indoor play space.

Teachers prepare weekly newsletters which provide parents with highlights of their child’s experience in school. The Director prepares a monthly newsletter to inform families of school and temple events, school news, an article on related parenting issues, and a parent association update.

Our Head Teachers are all licensed in Early Childhood Education and the entire staff is CPR and First Aid certified.

There is an active Parent Association responsible for planning several family-oriented holiday events throughout the year and organizing fundraising activities in the school. We encourage parent participation and believe that active parent involvement is the key to creating a successful early childhood experience at Temple Emeth.
