Preschool in Belmont, MA 02478
Plymouth Nursery School (PNS) is a semi-cooperative preschool serving the children in our community for over 60 years. At Plymouth Nursery School we are committed to providing an excellent learning experience for children ages 2.9-5. Our goal is to provide a positive preschool experience that allows the children to develop a sense of self in a safe, caring and stimulating environment. Here children have an opportunity to develop, think creatively, learn about emotions and interact with other children.

Plymouth Nursery School is committed to following developmentally appropriate practices as articulated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. At the core of our philosophy are the following values that NAEYC includes in their Code of Ethical Conduct (excerpted from Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs).
All instructional activities, both teacher-guided and unstructured, are geared to the development of all aspects of a childs growth: intellectual, physical, social, and emotional. At PNS, we recognize that while each childs development proceeds through important stages that should be valued and nurtured, children move through these stages at their own, unique rates. Our commitment to the use of developmentally appropriate practices means adapting our instruction and activities to meet the growing and changing needs of our students either individually or as a group.
Play is an essential activity of early childhood. Through play, children develop physically in both large muscle and small muscle coordination and ability. In addition, play helps a child develop intellectually through practice in conversation, problem-solving, and creative use of imagination; socially through interaction with other children which strengthens skills in sharing, following rules, cooperating in a group, and role-playing; and emotionally through providing opportunities to explore fears in a safe setting and express feelings in ways that are socially acceptable.
