Precious Time Philosophy of Education

Preschool and school-aged childen possess an enormous capacity to grow and learn. The Precious Time learning method emphasizes the importance of the child’s psychological development, as well as their physical and intellectual growth.

Precious Time provides a strong, broad foundation that helps children deal with the challenges of childhood. Precious Time teachers and professionals, using their knowledge of patterns of child growth, development and education, create developmentally appropriate practices for all children, including children with special developmental and learning needs.

Age appropriate activities are carefully planned for children from infancy through school age.

Precious Time provides a safe and healthy learning environment that is both consistent and predictable so your child can grow and learn socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively and creatively.

Precious Time Method

Precious Time uses its own proven learning method based on a multi-level, multi-disciplinary approach to early childhood education that encourages children to learn at their own rate and pace, to participate in creative and social activities as well as traditional play.

Play provides the opportunity for children to practice skills and develop knowledge. We use a great deal of hands-on materials, introduce concepts through learning games, and encourage children to operate independently, which enhances their self-esteem.

Teacher led activities and group games also help prepare the child to cooperate and follow directions, to develop the ability to think and problem solve, to make friends, develop communication skills and to be well- mannered and polite.

Physical play is used to develop small and large muscle groups and coordination skills.

Children are encouraged to be self-directed and self-disciplined.

Precious Time Programs

Precious Time recognizes that children are influenced by social and cultural concepts; therefore, we have incorporated multiculturalism to foster an environment of mutual respect, and promote healthy learning and development.

We also recognize that children need to be technically proficient, and have introduced computers into the classrooms beginning at age 2. Our phonetically based reading program is enhanced by whole language activities to prepare children for the love of reading. Basic concepts such as number skills, color and shape recognition are reviewed every day.

In addition, each class focuses on a special topic each week, ranging from holiday and seasonal activities, to areas of special interest, such as dinosaurs, space, pets, or our favorite authors.

Music, movement, art activities and story time are a part of every day. Fine motor development is enhanced through manipulatives, puzzles, cutting and introductory handwriting activities.

Children are also given time for free play, outdoor play, rest, meals and snacks.
