At Parker River Community Preschool, we strive to listen to and support the many languages of children. Children are naturally curious and inquisitive about the world around them. We encourage children to seek out answers to their questions and build theories through exploration. Children are guided to represent their thoughts and ideas with their 100’s of languages: art, movement, construction, writing, theater and more!

Our environment supports children’s natural curiosities and desire to learn. Classrooms are set up in an aesthetically pleasing manner that promotes problem solving, exploration, investigation and collaboration. Developmentally appropriate skills are introduced to children through hands on exploration, play, and open ended activities. An abundance of art, construction and natural materials are offered in the classroom as tools for children to use to represent their thoughts.

A child’s day at PRCP follows a predictable child-centered schedule that invites self-discovery and also incorporates important daily routines. Daily routines such as mealtimes, bathroom time and rest time are seen as opportunities for growth and learning and are never rushed.

Teachers play an important role in a child’s journey in becoming a lifelong learner. Teachers value each child as a team player within the group, as well as for the ‘uniqueness’ he or she brings to the classroom. Teachers are seen as facilitators and guides within the classroom, offering support, new challenges, comfort, and ideas. PRCP teachers
are also researchers in the classroom. As children explore and build connections, teachers observe and document their journeys. Beautiful displays of children’s creations are displayed for parents, children and teachers to reflect on, discuss, and use as guides for future curriculum planning.

Our philosophy is strongly influenced by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, as well as, theorists such as constructivist, Vygotsky, developmentalist, Piaget, and Howard Gardners Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Parker River Community Preschool is a learning community of children, families, and teachers who listen to and respect childrens thinking, creativity, and ways of learning!
