Old South Union Preschools philosophy is to assist in the development of the children, mentally, emotionally and physically and to provide experiences to help the children learn socially acceptable ways to interact with peers and adults.
We provide opportunities for children to find solutions, make decisions and experiment with their world.

We feel children learn best when they are relaxed and happy. Laughter and bursts of enthusiasm are encouraged from the children and the staff.
We believe when a child enters our program we are not only caring for the child but also their family. Families and extended families are encouraged and invited into our program in a variety of ways. Initially each family is given a survey with suggestions asking how they would like to participate during the year. There are monthly newsletters informing parents/guardians of upcoming units of study, crafts, special visitors, and events. Mid-month notices may be given about pertinent parenting advice, safety updates or stress relieving anecdotal stories. Several times during the year parents are offered free workshops on issues such as discipline, parent suggested issues, Kindergarten readiness and stress in the modern family. Conferences are available whenever the family or teachers feel it necessary. There are scheduled conferences by phone in November and January with formal conferences in April.
Our program does not discriminate on any basis whether it is marital status, race, color, religion, special need, political belief, or cultural background. We celebrate our differences and our curriculum reflects this.
Our preschool enrolls children that are 3 years of age by September of that school year of attendance. We offer a morning and an afternoon session on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The A.M. class hours are 8:30 -11:00 and the P.M. hours are 12:00 2:30. There are 24 children in each session with 3 teachers and a teacher assistant.

Our philosophy provides emotional support to encourage the development of a good sense of initiative and creates an environment where children can help develop the curriculum by their interests.
Our games, play opportunities and lessons encourage the acquisition of mental abilities appropriate for their age and ability and assist in the development of small and large motor skills. Through our facilitation we recognize and refer children for services with any special issues that may occur.
Learning through play occurs in a safe, comfortable, environment where our main emphasis is that of helping children learn to cooperate with others and develop confidence in themselves. Our teaching methods foster self-esteem and independence while allowing them to progress at their own rate without undue pressure.
By using different methods for presenting materials we help the children participate in the learning process as a whole person not only their intellectual capacity. Some of our curriculum areas are child and teacher selected, whole group, small group or individually selected.
