The Nelson County Early Learning Center (NCELC) is located in the completely renovated and redesigned former Nelson County Schools central office building just off Highway 245 at 1200 Cardinal Drive in Bardstown.

The building has been completely repurposed to serve the needs of preschool children, ages three and four. The center has five classrooms, a large multi-purpose room, a cafeteria, a playground and ample office areas and classroom space to accommodate before- and after-school childcare for enrolled NCELC students. Preschool and childcare programs are separate but operate in a side-by-side fashion at the center.

NCELC classes are taught in 3-hour morning and afternoon sessions, Monday through Friday on school days. Sessions take place from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. until 3:10 p.m. Lunch is provided family-style for students attending either session.

Bus transportation is available for students enrolled in the morning session from their homes to their originating schools. These students will then be transported from those schools to the NCELC. Midday buses will return these children directly to their homes. Bus transportation is available for children from Foster Heights and Coxs Creek areas from their homes to attend the afternoon session. After school, NCELC buses will transport these students to their originating schools for transportation home. Bus monitors will accompany preschool children to and from the center on school-provided transportation. Parents must provide transportation for NCELC students attending childcare outside of preschool hours.

The NCELC program is designed to be developmentally appropriate for young children with focus placed on the childs physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development, including interpersonal, intrapersonal and socialization skills.

The program is tuition based unless a child fits one of the following categories: (1) four-years old and qualifies for the federal free-lunch program or (2) three or four years old with developmental delays or disabilities. (All free-lunch eligible four-year-olds must be four by October 1 of the school year in which they will attend.)
