Here We Grow Child Care Center - Head Start

All Staff in the Head Start Program are well qualified for their positions. Teachers have a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood or Associates degrees in Early Childhood. Assistant Teachers have Associates degrees in Early Childhood or classes preparing for an Associates degree. Support staff has attended classes in Early Childhood. All Staff regularly attend Early Childhood trainings and monthly in-services.

• All staff follow the Creative Curriculum by Diane Trister Dodge. Goals for the Head Start Children are developed by following the Head Start Performance Standards and the Creative Curriculum 50 Objectives.

• Classrooms are arranged in Learning Centers. Children learn through their play as they are guided by staff in math, science, language and literacy, computers, cooking, dramatic play, art, blocks, sand and water, toys and games, music and movement and the outdoors.

• The Daily Schedule is followed in each classroom to allow for group times and individual play, quiet and active times and indoor and outdoor large motor activities.

• Positive guidance techniques are used with all children. Social skills are practiced and age-appropriate activities are provided for children to learn to problem solve and resolve differences. Children learn respect for the feelings and rights of others through activities that develop cooperation and patience.

• Parents are informed of their childs growth and development during Home Visits and Conferences. Weekly newsletters and Calendars inform families of classroom and Head Start activities.

• Program Outcome Reports indicate the overall developmental growth of children in the Head Start Program.

Special Needs:

Transitioning into Head Start from a Birth to Three Program
o We work with the Sheboygan County Birth to Three Programs of RCS/Rehab Resources and Progressive Beginnings to make the transition from birth to three IFSP services to Head Start classrooms a smooth process
o These transition activities include but are not limited to: initial home visits, site tours, informational packets, Head Start staff support on IEP teams, observations in classrooms and/or treatment settings.
o No child is refused entrance to Head Start due to a disability.
* Developmental Screener
o Each child is screened within the first 45 days of entering the program, unless they already have an IEP.
o Head Start uses a Developmental Screener, Ages and Stages 3 that covers areas of communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving and personal-social areas.
o The screening tool is completed in English and Spanish and is translated into other languages when possible
* Referrals to Local School Districts
o Referrals to local school districts are made for many educational and developmental reasons.
o Parental agreement is required for all referrals
o We support the parent and child throughout the referral process
* IEPs :Individual Education Plan
o Head Start staff match their individualized lesson plans to the goals on each childs IEP on a daily and weekly basis.
o We work with school districts to provide consistency in programming.
o We are very flexible in working with the IEP team to help meet each childs needs and the goals of the IEP.
* Referral Agency
o We provide resource information on agencies in Sheboygan County who work with children with disabilities.
