The Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church Child Learning Centers mission is to provide a rich learning environment that stimulates physical, cognitive, social/emotional, and language development. We provide programs that help children, families and employees work together to be their very best. The Learning center uses The Creative Curriculum for infants, toddlers and twos. The preschool classrooms use a combination of The Creative Curriculum for Preschool and the MNPS Pre-K/K Assessment Portfolio objectives to ensure that our preschool students are ready for their next educational journey. Our curriculum is designed to assist teachers in planning concrete and hands-on experiences which provides children knowledge of the world around them. In addition, we incorporate the use of American Sign Language to help encourage communication skills and early language development. Spanish is also introduced in the toddler and preschool classes. The Creative Curriculum offers a developmental continuum which proposes that skills and concepts unfold in a sequential fashion. In other words, each concept or skill is based on a previously acquired skill or concept. For example, a child will roll over, kick, creep, crawl, stand, step, and finally walk. Thus, each skill is built on the previous one. This happens when the child is ready for the skill at their own pace.
Our approach to facilitating learning is a combination of traditional and Montessori philosophies of educating young children. We firmly believe that each child develops at his or her own pace and that the needs of the Whole Child must be taken into consideration. Each aspect of a childs life and being play a part in their development and are individually influenced and important. Developmental skills are not necessarily linked to chronological age. There are ranges of normal development. The Centers objectives and entire curriculum are based upon the areas of development that are basic developmental characteristics of young children.
