PUEBLO The Colorado State University – Pueblo Child Care Center remains the only child care center in Pueblo to hold accreditation from the nations leading organization of early childhood professionals. The Early Childhood Education Management Systems (ECEMS) at CSU-Pueblo has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
This accreditation places ECEMS among the top eight percent of all early childhood programs in the nation as only 8,000 programs, serving one million young children, are NAEYC accredited.
The Child Care Center currently serves 85 children, about 90 percent of whom are the children of CSU-Pueblo students. Although the children of students have priority in admission, the facility also accepts children of CSU-Pueblo faculty, staff, and alumni. The center serves children 12 months to 6 years and offers a comprehensive, educational preschool program.
Mark Ginsberg, Ph.D., executive director of NAEYC, said ECEMS accreditation is a sign that they are a leader in a national effort to invest in high-quality early childhood education and to help give all children a better start.
Were proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards, said Louanna Razo, owner of ECEMS and program administrator.
Razo said ECEMS strives to provide the highest quality early care and learning programs by employing well-trained, sensitive staff who support the family and the child.
Our program is child and family centered focusing on building community through mutual respect and collaboration with our families, she said. In fact, our highest scores were in our relationships with families and our community.
To earn NAEYC accreditation, ECEMS conducted an extensive self-study, measuring the program and its services against the 10 NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related accreditation criteria. The program received NAEYC Accreditation after a site visit by NAEYC Assessors to ensure that the program meets each of the 10 program standards. NAEYC-accredited programs also are subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation, which lasts for five years. Both the Wall Street Journal and Parents Magazine have termed NAEYCs accreditation as the gold standard in early education.
