Early Steps Bilingual Preschool

Preschool in Arlington, VA 22201

Our vision is to be a center of integral development, in which children age two to five can develop basic knowledge and fundamental skills to succeed in life.
The goal of our early childhood program is to enrich the minds of your children as they grow in a society that demands bilingual capabilities. Not only will we teach the fundamental building blocks of life, but also teach them in a different language. As a result, the children from our pre-school have a good head start for their future.

In our preschool classes, we follow the The learning True Play curriculum to obtain the harmonic development of a complete and dynamic being, growing in an atmosphere pleasing and in complete harmony for him or her. The goal is for each child to feel absolutely respected, individually based on autonomy, activity, and freedom.

We favor the individuals development of the abilities in all areas: psychological, language, cognitive, communication, emotional-social, and partner affective emotion and creativity. We will also teach another language (Spanish) to children two to five years old.

This curriculum is based on research, which indicates that young children learn most effectively through play and realistic experiences. In our classrooms, you will find activity areas that are well stocked with a wealth of materials. These areas feature blocks, art, housekeeping, dramatic play items, books, records, games, manipulative and challenging educational toys, computers, and science experiments.
In The Learning True Play curriculum, children are encouraged to plan what they will do during the important work time each morning and afterwards to recall what they have accomplished. This process is called learning through play and creates in the child a sense of purpose and self-direction. Teachers plan a wide variety of activities throughout the day so that children are busy and challenged. We are very serious about education and carefully watch the progress of each child as he/she attains knowledge that is essential for success in kindergarten and the primary grades.

We are currently teaching using books from Spain.

The academic development is as follows, for the 2 and 2 – 3 year old classes, the children will learn only in Spanish all year round. The 3-5 year old classes will have 2 days in English only and the remaining 3 days will be taught in Spanish. This means that teachers will primarily teach in Spanish.

As part of the extra activities we offer, we have music classes twice a week and art classes once a week. We have computer and phonics once a week to begin with and increase the number of days as needed. Science classes are held once a week. Every Friday we will have Arte y Mas sessions, which is part of our Program where music and movements are combined together to create a new and fun way to teach Spanish.

We are very excited about our soon to be opened Library Room on the third floor where the children will have the opportunity to learn how to check out books as well as return them all using their own library card.
