Crabapple Academy is a family owned and operated private preschool that has provided a safe, loving environment for local children for over 20 years. We first opened our doors in 1991 and have since seen many of our graduates go on to excel in academics, sports, arts, and in the community. We even have a few of our original teachers! We offer care for children from six weeks to twelve years of age, playing developmentally appropriate games and preparing children for their entrance into Elementary School Preschool or helping with homework after school. We believe that our small size and independent ownership allows us to provide more personal, loving care for each of our children. We strive to provide a home away from home while your children are in our care. Our curriculum follows a thematic learning plan that targets the whole child concept in order to foster cognitive, social, physical, and emotional growth. We believe that this well-balanced foundation is key to a childs future success. Our teachers strike a balance between child- and teacher-directed learning, allowing for a variety of hands-on experiences and freedom of expression. We use positive reinforcement to encourage behavior and most importantly, we believe that all children need to feel happy and loved, fostering a positive self-concept that will carry over once the child leaves our program. We have earned the title of Georgia Center of Distinction and are the only school in North Fulton County to have done so. Additionally, we have maintained our grant for the Georgia Pre-K program and are happy to provide this state-funded program to our students. at Crabapple Academy, we maintain close relationships with the educators at local schools. This involvement helps us to ensure that we are properly preparing our students for entrance into kindergarten.

Crabapple Academy has firmly resolved to consider the strengths of many curricula and philosophies and to incorporate the best of each. Our curriculum is theme based. Each week a different theme is incorporated into every part of the day. The children are exposed to many areas of interest as well as a large variety of songs, stories, art activities and vocabulary (both English and Spanish). We continually fine tune our program as we learn new ways to accomplish our goals for the children who are entrusted to our care. We believe that young children learn best in an environment that has a balance of teacher-directed activity and childrens free choice activities.

Our free play activities include blocks, role-playing, art, manipulatives and books.
This center/free play time also includes teacher-facilitated, small group activities such as math games, science activities, pre-reading, and pre-writing activities. The small groups are designed to give each child a chance to participate in creative activities such as cooking, carpentry, crafts, puppetry and motor skills. Other activities are planned for the whole group such as circle time, story time and music.

Our art activities are child centered. The children do their own age appropriate art work. Our youngest children enjoy messy art that involves experiencing different colors and textures. The process is important; the product is not. As the children mature, they become more purposeful while working on their creations. Finally, by their PreKindergarten year, most of the children are doing representational drawings and crafts that require fine motor skills. Motor skills both large and small are introduced and practiced in class and on the playground. Outdoor games are selected that include motor skills that are age appropriate. We respect the role of parents as their childs most important teachers and decision makers. We strive to include parents in decision making and to keep them well informed about their childs progress.
