The California State Preschool Program is a Part-Day three-hour educational program offered daily (A.M. or P.M.), for children ages three and four years old, with priority given to four-year old’s. These programs are in fourteen districts at 38 school sites and provide students 180 days of services. The program also provides nutritious meals and or snacks that follow USDA guidelines. A family must meet the income guidelines set by the Department of Education. We provide a core class curriculum that is developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate.

We participate in Quality Start San Bernardino County to maintain a high-quality early learning experience and ensure that children get early and specialized support if needed which makes a lasting difference to prepare children to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.

We partner with Healthy SBCSS Nutrition program to offer students the opportunity to learn the importance of eating healthy and staying active through lessons that focus on eating fruits and vegetables and being physically fit. We know that young children need proper nutrients to grow up healthy and strong to establish a foundation for healthy eating habits that they can apply throughout their life.

We enhance our curriculum with Footsteps2Brilliance and Clever Kids University provides opportunities for preschoolers to engage in literacy activities such as listening to read alouds, playing skill-based games, and developing early writing. Interactive reading and writing activities are engaging for preschoolers and support language and literacy skill acquisition and build an effective school-to-home connection.

We implement Early Childhood PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) which provides a multi-tiered framework with a continuum of evidence-based practices to promote expected behaviors, prevent problem behaviors, and intervene when students need additional support.

We encourage parent involvement and offer parent education, referrals to health and social services for families within the communities.

We offer staff development to employees as we recognize these opportunities lead to improvements in the knowledge, skills, practices of early childhood professionals.

For the 2021-2022 school year we will be servicing students 5 days a week for 3 hours a day. We will implement layered COVID-19 prevention strategies to protect all students and staff:

Consistent and correct mask-wearing for all students and staff indooors.
Outdoor mask-wearing will be optional.
Physical distancing as much as possible in a developmentally appropriate way.
Our classroom will adjust guidelines set forth by home district policies.

The philosophy of the Crafton Hills College Child Development Center (CHC CDC) is based on a growing body of research, knowledge, and educational practice that strongly indicate children learn and develop most effectively through active exploration, involvement and manipulation of their environment. Through this dynamic process, children construct knowledge of the world that makes sense in ways they can understand. The child’s development of knowledge of the social world and strategies for interacting with peers and adults is also an important part of learning during the early childhood years.
