Smart Steps School

Center in Thorndike, MA 01079

Smart Steps School is a program center for children ages 3 months to kindergarten age. At our School children are treated with respect and direct their own play activities in a challenging, diverse environment. Our program is child-centered and addresses the varied physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of children. Each day, children experience self-directed play in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. As they explore and manipulate their world, children gain confidence in their growing abilities. This learning is enhanced through conversations with other children and caring, involved adults. Children here are encouraged and challenged to create, experiment, take risks, and investigate their world in an optimal setting where the emotional dynamic, physical space, and schedule of experiences are designed to help them succeed, flourish, and are prepared for entering kindergarten. The role of the teachers is to provide a learning environment that is both challenging and nurturing. As a cooperative community of learners, Smart Steps School recognizes the importance of ongoing education for its adult members. Parent education, staff professional development, and parent involvement facilitates this learning.
