“The Children’s Workshop in Smithfield offers high quality child care and early learning for infants, toddlers, preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and school age children. Our early learning program centers around our unique Children’s Workshop Framework curriculum, which combines RI Early Childhood Standards with the Massachusetts state standards and centers around play to provide your child with an educational experience unlike anywhere else.

In addition, we offer a number of Kindergarten options, from a private, full day program to wrap-around care to continue your child’s half day Kindergarten education. Our Kindergarten program is run by a certified teacher and has a low student-teacher ratio of 12:1, compared to 25:1 at the public schools. In this program, we teach to the Rhode Island GLE’s as well as the common core standards. We also include our Social and Emotional curriculum to help ease the transition from pre-kindergarten.

Our school age buses and vans provide transportation to and from Smithfield, North Providence and Johnston Elementary Schools. In addition, we service areas of North Scituate. If you are unsure if we service your area, please give us a call!

Our center is located on Cedar Swamp Road, right off Route 44 about a mile past the Smithfield Crossings. Our spacious layout gives a one-of-a-kind feel to the center and allows each age group their own learning experience. We have two large playgrounds nestled safely behind our center to allow for lots of outdoor experiences, natural exploration, and safe gross motor time outside with similar age groups."

“The Children’s Workshop Curriculum was developed by the company’s top teachers and professionals. It is inspired by many of the principles of The Creative Curriculum and focuses on not only local state early learning standards, but also standards used across the country. Our curriculum emphasizes a child’s ability to choose his or her educational activities in an intentional, play based environment.

Our curriculum focuses on five essential development domains:

Social and Emotional Development Physical Development Artistic Development Cognitive Development Language & Literacy Development

Within each of these domains we define goals as well as performance indicators for each goal. In addition, we include ""Learning in Action,"" which offers specific examples of how our teachers can assure these goals are met within their classrooms.

Our observation and assessment system is closely tied to this framework to ensure that our teachers are consistently working with the children to help them meet their goals and are attentively documenting their successes.

We strongly believe that children learn best when having fun so our curriculum emnphasizes play as the primary goal within all five developmental domains. Children learn vital life skills such as communication, comprehension, self regulation, and positive self awareness as well as essential academic skiills including music, art, life sciences, mathematics, reading and writing – all through PLAY!"
