Since its founding in 1972 the Child Development Center has been providing high quality child care for the children of students at SJSU. The mission of the Center is to support the academic mission of San Jos State University by providing care for the pre-school age children of student parents thus enabling the parents to fulfill their educational goals.
The Center is licensed by the California Department of Social Services and operates under guidelines established by the California Department of Education Child Development Division. The Center offers flexible scheduling to fit the needs of students for Fall and Spring semesters in a location close to campus. (Children of faculty and staff are accommodated when space allows.)
The original Center is named for Frances Gulland a former professor in the Education Department who served as an advisor to the student group which established the Center She was instrumental in helping them secure the contract with the California Department of Education as well as the license to operate granted by the Department of Social Services.
