Special Beginnings Early Learning Center South

Center in Olathe, KS 66062

Special Beginnings Early Learning Center will provide a quality care program with a safe, loving, and Christian environment. The staff will pursue the goal of nurturing individual children while helping them build confidence and have strong sense of self. The children will learn about the world around them while beginning to understand what they say and do affects other people and things. We will provide children with a balance of play, socialization, and pre-academics to explore and learn skills through art, music, language, science, cooking, dramatic play, Bible stories and independent play activities. We will talk with children and listen to them about their ideas using language that they can understand. We believe that parents are our partners in early education. We will work with them each day to build a strong relationship based on open communication, professionalism, and mutual respect. We believe that by providing this type of environment, we are able to give young children the foundation to be successful in all areas of their life in future years.

A quality curriculum is a critical piece in the foundation of successful early education programs. At Special Beginnings, our approach to curriculum is holistic in nature and based on developmentally appropriate practice. This includes a balance of pre-academics, sensory lessons, social/emotional activities, dramatic/imaginative play, art, music, fine/large motor skill development, as well as group/independent play and outdoor play. A Curriculum Committee made up of mentor-level Lead Teachers will work together with staff to develop and write lesson plans. Lesson plans are based on Developmental Goals and Assessments developed by Special Beginnings Inc. and must meet the written requirements of Special Beginnings Inc. Lesson plans will be implemented by Lead Teachers with the support of Assistant Teachers and other staff. All lesson plans will be submitted for approval from the Curriculum Committee to the Administrative Team. All lesson plans will be evaluated by the Lead Teacher in each class on a regular basis to determine effectiveness, developmental appropriateness, and overall enjoyment and response of children. Lesson plans will be distributed monthly to parents and will be posted in each classroom.
