Children with severe emotional disturbance very often are removed from their environments and placed in psychiatric hospitals or residential facilities.
Treatment Foster Care combines home care and therapeutic support that creates opportunities for teaching learning and treatment in a nurturing family environment. It offers children with emotional difficulties an opportunity to live in a therapeutic family setting. The children maintain connections with their birth families with the goal of family reunification and/or an alternative permanency plan is developed. The ultimate goal of the program is the prevention of institutionalization and provision of permanency for the child.
