I have watched infants, who demand great attention but just want to learn. I have taken a class on Natural Developmental Language, learning the fundamentals of what each cry, laugh, eye motion and hand motion mean.

The next age range I watch, which happens to be the one I gravitate toward most is 3-5 year old’s. During this time, the child’s brain is absorbing and picking up on everything— like a sponge.(FYI it’s the perfect age to learn a second language!) I love the child’s young, free-spirited, fun mindset, that coincides with their need for understanding.
*From 2013-2014 I worked in Shalva with 2-5 years old children with special needs, in an enthusiastic and fun environment.

I love watching 6-10 year old children, because this is the time where they slowly transitioning into their pre-teen years. You get to still play and have fun, but they are starting to get an understanding of themselves and the world that they didn’t have at 3-5 years old. For this reason, this age is so fundamental in helping a child but also instilling in them that their voice matters.

After this, the age range I watch ranges from 11-14 years old. This age believes they know everything, and sometimes don’t think they need help from anyone else. This is because of the independent voice they developed a few years earlier. It’s so crucial to let kids know at this age that I too was their age and went through the changes they are going through. They need a friend, a companion to help them navigate.
*From 2010-2013 I worked in Friendship Circle with children with special needs for hours of fun and friendship. These shared experiences empower 11-14 year old children with special needs, while enriching the lives of everyone involved.
