Even though Im an only child, I have spent most of my life around kids of all ages. Especially now, as a sophomore in college, I can appreciate time with kids as they help you look at life in a brighter perspective while watching their minds grow and flourish with creativity. My family owns a childcare center in my hometown, so I have spent my childhood learning the inns and outs of safety, learning, and overall care when it comes to newborns-10 year olds. 5 years ago, I became a counselor in training at the local Jewish Community Center summer camp where I spent half a summer counseling kindergarteners! Throughout middle and high school, I babysat for various family members, friends, neighbors, and kids in my community. Last summer, I worked as a mentor at a summer camp for troubled students in the local school district, ages 10-14, and we spent the summer growing their confidence, teamwork, problem-solving, and motivation to succeed. This program changed my life and I constantly think of those kids when dealing with my own obstacles. Honestly, protecting the innocence and imagination of children while helping them navigate the harsh realities world is what I want to spend my life doing.
