Hey there! My name is Destiny & Im a Junior in college studying towards my Bachelors degree. Ive worked with children from the age of 14, my first caregiver job was a tutoring gig (M-F/ 3 hours a day) and my client was in the 2nd grade. This was my first experience developing consistent homework methodologies, scheduling and creating cool down activities. Ever since, Ive always been dabbling within the childcare field. I went onto work with a nonprofit organization, called Forestdale Inc. where we helped young struggling mothers, and provided free daycare for all children ranging from newborns to 10-year-olds. Another service that we offered were bi-weekly social, emotional, learning skills (SEL) and reproductive health classes for middle schoolers and high schoolers. These courses generally informed the youth about hygiene, boundaries and personal health awareness. During this time (2018), I also took on a position as a music counselor at the Boys and Girls Club of America. My students and I practiced acting, dialect and vocal performance skills throughout the school year. I taught classes ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Every week, I would have to make an adjusted lesson plan for each group targeted. Although, we did not have enough time or resources to present a proper production, my students and I were able to work together and create a real-life audition process based on The Lion King by the end of the semester. The best part of it all, everyone had a voice, everyone felt comfortable enough to participate and everyone became so focused, they honed in on their creativity! I incorporated my SEL knowledge and music education to create a transparent, but also expressive environment. The last job Ive had with childcare was working for SYEP as a coordinator (2022). However, due to my previous schooling hours, I was unable to balance full-time work. Besides being an educator and a mentor for children, Im a sister and a daughter first! I come from a very big family and am the eldest of three (2 younger brothers). Just some insight to show that Ive technically been a babysitter since the age of 3!
