Hi there! I’m Isis and I’m excited to get back into babysitting again. I am currently a studying English Literature at the University of Sussex in the UK, where I am originally from. I spent my childhood in East Africa before coming to New York, where I lived for just over 10 years.
I have looked after children aged 2-10, my most recent job was with an 8 year old girl and her two 1 year-old siblings. My role included putting the babies to bed, occasionally cooking for the girl and entertaining her until the parents were back. We watched TV, did arts and crafts and baked. Other jobs I have done include picking up siblings from school and taking them home, and looking after them until the parents were back from work. I helped them with homework when they needed it. I have also tutored a young girl in mathematics – we had one session a week after school. Lastly, I have also volunteered helping children living in a small mountain town in Nepal. Me and my peers visited the local school everyday for about a week, where we would teach the children English and maths. My age group was from 6-8 which posed a lot of challenges, but I was able to get the children involved by using fun games to learn.
I am passionate about art and making art with kids is one of my favourite things to do! In the past, I have made collages with the children, taught them how to make jewellery and have also done some creative finger painting. I also enjoy helping kids with their homework (as much or little support as they need) as I am very patient and feel confident explaining ideas and concepts to the children. I am very time-conscious and organized in my personal day-to-day life, as is the case when caring for others. I can juggle multiple tasks (cooking, studying, cleaning, reading – also making time to do creative things like painting and writing) and do well under pressure. I feel confident that I can keep the children happy while also ensuring everything is organized and tidy in the house. I have also been playing guitar for the past 10 years and am willing to help and encourage kids to play music.
I think the best part of looking after kids is the connection you make with them. It feels good to know that you can make someone happy and fill the part of a good role model.
