Educational Philosophy
ASA Charter School is an educational facility dedicated to assisting youth to become confident, competent, responsible educated adults and educate Kindergarten through Twelfth grade students from the diverse student body served by San Bernardino Unified School district in the county of San Bernardino. ASA Charter School curriculum emphasizes the fundamental skills of reading, communication (oral and written), computation, and technology. The staff at ASA Charter School believes being an educated person in the 21st century is a combination of many factors. Some we presently can address and some are as of yet undefinEducation In order to prepare our students for this future, we feel there are eight main issues that must be addressed in addition to a firm understanding of the core subjects: Mathematics, The Sciences, Language Arts, and History/Social Sciences.
An educated person in the 21st century must posses Critical Thinking Skills. He/She must have a desire for life-long learning or continuing their education so that they can succeed at a career or careers of choice. Students must have an awareness of self and others. They must possess a sense of ethics and the ability to adapt to whatever situation presents itself. To be a responsible adult, they must possess economical and political awareness to become a performing member of society.
We feel learning best occurs in a structured environment that allows students enough freedom and creativity to explore their curricular materials, themselves, and how the two relate to each other. Teachers must be aware of students individuality as well as how students interact with peers and will encourage both individualized and group learning. In order to provide students with a full range of academic growth, students in the upper levels will be allowed Project Based Learning so that they can fully recognize curricular material and its everyday use.
