Starting pre-school and pre-kindergarten is an exciting time for families and children. Education will play a very important role in shaping your childs future. I am delighted that you have selected our program to begin your childs journey. Truly, you have chosen a program that has demonstrated proven results in providing the highest quality of education and care for your child. The ECEC at Alexander Dawson has recently been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children for commitment to the highest level of professional standards in early childhood education.
Our goal in the ECEC is to nurture, challenge, and assist your child in developing socially, emotionally, and intellectually. We do this through teaching independence and problem solving skills, attending and listening skills, speech and language skills, fine and gross motor skills, reading, writing and math readiness skills.
We encourage creative play daily as we feel it is a central activity in the lives of healthy young children. Play helps children tie together all the fundamentals of their life as they gain knowledge. Play is an outlet for the richness of their creativity, and it is an absolutely critical part of their childhood. The unique qualities of each child become apparent in the way they play. This period of time allows children the opportunity to make choices, plan, and enhance their creativity. Child-initiated play lays the foundations of learning. Through play, children learn to interact with others, to recognize and solve problems, and to feel the sense of mastery in their surroundings. Play helps children make sense of and find their own place in the physical and social world.
Each of our classrooms environments are created by the children who learn there. They make it their own through drawings, paintings, hand-written signs, and compassion for the space in which they learn.
We will guide students toward personal responsibility and the decision making skills they will need to function in society. Our school is a warm, caring, and safe environment where boys and girls can work diligently, achieve academic success, as well as personal, social, and emotional growth.
Children have to feel good about themselves and their surroundings in order to enjoy learning. The enjoyment of learning is a top priority in the ECEC. We feel that our curriculum and hands-on approach to learning are the best and most effective forms of learning. We believe that one must teach a child holistically; taking the whole child into consideration. We believe in village teaching and that it takes the home, the school and the community working together to raise a child. We believe that if your child likes school, has success at school, and is involved in learning activities, your child will have a rewarding, positive and successful school year. We want your child to realize that learning is a natural process and that the key to a happy and productive life is found in a successful education. I know that by working together we can make this a successful year for you and your child.
As you and your child embark on the exciting road to pre-school and pre-kindergarten, the ECEC teachers, staff, and myself will work together, with you, as a team, to provide your child with an outstanding experience.

At Dawson, we offer a challenging and enriching curriculum for Early Childhood children. Our differentiated approach to instruction assures that each child will spend their day working towards individual instructional goals, identified through careful teacher assessments. Our intentional personal-social program also assures that each child progresses toward self-regulation, independent learning and problem solving, essential for success in todays world. We believe children are strong, rich, and capable learners who can use a variety of material to discover and to communicate what they understand, wonder about, feel, and imagine.
Our teachers facilitate childrens exploration of our world and application of literacy and math skills through short-term and tong-term investigations as well as help children learn to solve problems and grow in a community. We include parents in field trips, small group and class projects. Parents are often guest speakers and readers in the classrooms and vital members of the team of educators working with each child.
Our teachers are among the most highly qualified early childhood teachers in Las Vegas and have at least a bachelors degree with specialist training in early childhood education as well as years of experience and annual professional development. Teachers communicate daily with parents regarding the academic and social growth of their child. Results of detailed assessments are shared with parents each quarter. Our partnership with parents in these early years provides a strong foundation for future years.
Our program is designed around the standards from The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Through intentional instruction and a commitment to each childs learning goals, our early childhood program prepares our youngest students for the Dawson Lower School and Middle School and for the community as a whole.
