We all have a drive inside of us, begging to make sense of the complexity of our adult world, hoping to add some of the mysticism through which we saw it when we were children. This drive, for me, dates to when I was growing up in Guatemala, a land seeped in magical realism, where I moved to at the age of four and lived until I was twelve. While there, I went to a public school and grew up learning just how unique each persons experience of life could be. When my parents got divorced and I had the opportunity to move back up to the States, I knew I would want to continue this pursuit and understanding of the world around me, and where best to start but with people.

I wanted to study psychology, but as a teen, and still in high school, my ability to do so was limited. I had a strong work ethic, and started baby sitting at the age of fifteen, knowing this would expose me to new people, new experiences, and new histories. While in high school, I was inducted into the National Honor Society where I continued to work with children in an after-school program within an elementary school. The focus of this program was to create healthy study habits and facilitate creative learning activities until their parents were able to pick them up from school. I enjoyed this experience so thoroughly that when I went to Rutgers University and finally had the opportunity to study psychology, I engaged in a work-study program with the Puerto Rican Action Board. Through this, I tutored middle-school-aged children in several subjects. The focus of this program was to work with individual students on a 3:1 student-to-facilitator ratio in order to assist them in any subject they were failing during their studies and prepare them for high school.

During this time, I also continued to baby-sit and tutor children in a freelance setting. While Ive worked with children ages 3-15 and am skilled in a variety of care-taking tasks, I have also assisted with the elderly via volunteer opportunities in nursing homes and assisted living situations. I love to cook, am a thorough reader of fantasy and sci-fi (among other subjects), fascinated and have participated in theatre as well as in visual art programs, and am currently studying to become a nurse. I would love to meet your family and help in any way I can!
