Hi! I’m Victoria. I was born in Spain (speak fluent Spanish), was raised in the New York City suburbs, currently living in NYC and am now going into my second year of my degree at Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts in Greenwich Village. And being the youngest of 4, I always wished I had a younger sibling. Babies and young kids have always been like a magnet to me— they love to show me what they know, talk to me, and (probably most important to them)— play with me! I have always been complimented on my maternal energy. Compassion, caring, and kindness are fundamental to who I am— and getting to take care of kids is simply a job where I get to be myself— and that is truly my favorite thing about babysitting.

As a psychology student, I know how critical childhood is in our development, and I love to incorporate learning, reading and creative activities into the time I get to spend with the kids. I know how important outside time is, especially not getting enough of it sometimes in NYC, and something I’ve always enjoyed with kids I’ve cared for is taking them to a park, pool, or even a long walk around the neighborhood.

I took a babysitting course at my local library at 13 (I am now 19) and it trained us on CPR, fire safety, emergency situations, as well as other key skills that make a good caregiver. At the end of this several week course, I received a certificate. Having this has made the numerous families I’ve babysat for at much more of an ease; letting them know that I’m not “watching” your kids, I’m taking care of them, and that if any kind of emergency situation arises, I am knowledgable on what to do and not do.

I’ve babysat for old teachers of mine, and family friends. I also have two nephews, and babysat an entire summer 4 days a week once for a 2 year old girl, so you could say I’m a pro at changing diapers. The youngest I’ve cared for was about a year old, and the oldest was 4. My experience is scattered, though steady through the past 6 years— a lot of the kids I cared for were on occasion. However, 3 summers ago I worked 4 days a week, averaging from 7:30 AM to 5 or 6 PM, sometimes later.

I look forward to babysitting again because working in restaurants the past 3 years has been debilitating, and truthfully, not me. I find much more significance in creating meaningful relationships rather than a business/money-oriented environment. I’m excited to get to know your kids and having fun with them! :)
