I just moved to New York, and I currently work as a research assistant in a neuroscience lab at Columbia University Medical Center. I have cared for children on and off for years and would love to continue doing so when I am not working at my full-time job. I have a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Chicago and bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Spanish from Lipscomb University. Most of my babysitting experience has been with children ages 8 and under, but I have experience with older children and are comfortable with children of all ages. I was a nanny to an eight-year old girl for nearly two years in Nashville, TN, where I provide transportation, homework help, food preparation, and help with hygiene on a daily basis. Throughout high school and college I nannied and babysat short term for multiple families. In addition to babysitting, I also have worked with children as a counselor fora local Bible camp (4 years), as a soccer referee (5 years), as a volunteer at a local daycare (one semester), and as an intern at a group home for adolescent boys (one summer). I have worked with children with autism, diabetes, ADHD, and behavioral problems and am comfortable with these conditions. I try to be a very hands-on babysitter- I love playing with the kids and enjoy planning fun activities, whether itbe outings to the park, museum, etc or things at home, such as cooking or science experiments. I am very creative and will definitely not allow a child to sit and watch TV or play computer all day. I encourage children to read, to be physically active, and to engage in activities that require use of their imagination and creativity (crafts, playing pretend, etc). I amcomfortable with all religions and lifestyles and will adhere to whatever restrictions and rules that parents may have for their children. I also speak fluent Spanish, so I can work with a Spanish-speaking family, and if desired, I wouldbe more than willing to help a child learnSpanish.
