I am a rising senior at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. I am studying Education and Psychology with a minor in Spanish. Throughout high school I had four steady babysitting jobs, and during my time at Colby I have consistently babysat my professor’s three children two times each week. I am involved in many mentoring programs at Colby, such as Colby Cares About Kids; in this program, I serve as a mentor for one 4th grade girl who I visit weekly. I create individualized learning activities for my mentee and provide assistance in reading, writing, and math. Additionally, I am the Program Leader for an organization called the South End Teen Center, which is a program run by the Colby College Volunteer Center. In this role, I serve as the liaison between Colby volunteers and the local organization’s managing staff. As a volunteer for the South End Teen Center, I counsel teens to make safe, healthy, and positive decisions during bi-weekly visits. During the summer 2013, I was the head counselor at Beth El Day Camp in Westchester, New York for the 8 year-old girls group. In this position, I gained tremendous experience working with children and attending to their individual needs. I learned a lot about compromise, encouragement, and building community among children. I feel incredibly equipped to take care of groups of children after holding this level of responsibility. Last January, I spent the month taking a course to be certified as an English language teacher, and I now I have the TEFL certification. Through the TEFL course, I acquired important skills for helping students with their reading, and would be happy to spend time reading with your children. I am incredibly energized by children, and I have always known that I would love to work in a school setting in my future. I am creative, which translates into fun and engaging activities when I babysit. I also love to bake (with healthy recipes!)
