Since I grew up in a close-knit church, I often was given the responsibility of taking care of children. From the age of seven I helped wash babies as well as babysitting. Most of my childhood was spent in the countryside of upstate New York, and my screen-time was limited. As a result it was an opportunity to learn many interesting crafts, and skills. Some examples would be painting, cooking, creating floral arrangements, gardening, face painting, ceramics, woodwork, and camping. Another activity thats great for kids is singing and playing instruments (I play violin). Did you know that music is the only activity that uses every part of the brain? One can start even while the child is still in the womb. I also know finger games, which are great for hand-eye coordination and cognitive function.
In 2016 after graduating high school, I helped a family who had two children at the time, one of whom had a severe allergy condition. This involved cooking food for him separately and being very conscious of his eating. I have completed trainings with AED Defibrillator, First Aid, Safe Environments, choking prevention, and the Heimlich maneuver. I also know how to swim and some basic survival skills (outdoors). Three years ago in 2017, I started volunteering first full then part-time at an organization called The Sisters of Life. Their mission is providing support for mothers who are single and want to keep their baby, but have little means to support themselves. This provided me with an opportunity to babysit newborn infants up to middle school, which was enjoyable and helped provide them with a better childhood. I love kids, and their genuine honesty, curiosity, and imagination. I think interacting and caring for children makes better people. I love to encourage children to be confident, self-reliant, and considerate. Some of my favorite activities with children are: storytelling (ad lib), gardening, cooking, and different games.
