How to Make Your Preschool Teacher Resume Shine

Early education is an incredibly competitive industry. It’s important to stand out from the crowd in any way that you can. Here’s how to give your preschool teacher resume that extra boost:

Objectives

Before you dive into your past experiences, state your objectives. Where do you excel? What do you have to bring to the table that would make you an excellent preschool teacher? A brief, to-the-point summary can work as a great, eye-catching introduction.

Experience

Highlight your relevant experience, starting with the most current and working your way back in time. The most important word here is relevant. If you have several years as an assistant teacher and a few summer camps under your belt, no need to list that coffee shop gig you had in college. Keep things short, simple and relevant.

Education

List your degrees and schools in order, starting with the most recent. Most preschools request that teaching candidates hold at least an associate degree.

Skills

This is where you break down your certifications. CPR and first aid certified? List it in the skills section.

Interests

The interest portion of a preschool teacher resume can really help a candidate stand out. Maybe you enjoy yoga or you can play the flute. Include a few personal hobbies or interests here, particularly ones that you may be able to share with your future preschool class.

Organization

The ideal preschool teacher resume is no longer than one page. It highlights the following section in this exact order: objectives, experience, education, skills and interests.

Cover Letter

Most importantly, make sure you attach an outstanding cover letter. The letter should always be less than one page and have a strong, attention-grabbing opening. Try starting out with a short, yet memorable anecdote that demonstrates why you’d make (or already do make) an awesome teacher. Sometimes, it might take an engaging cover letter to introduce yourself and even get the employers to read through your preschool teacher resume so make sure to triple check it!
