At NFCNS, we have a well-known tradition of supporting childrens development in a nurturing, play-based environment that encourages exploration, discovery and growth. Our curriculum and staff reflect the best practices of early childhood education and development available. We view parents as partners in the process of preparing each child socially, emotionally and academically for their transition into Kindergarten and we work closely with the schools that our students attend upon leaving NFCNS, to ensure the highest level of school readiness.

NFCNS is proud of the esteemed place we hold in the community as the preschool for young children, and the many community partnerships that join us in our mission to respectfully and intentionally support the individual development of all young children.

Northfield Community Nursery School embraces a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum for all children. We believe strongly that children learn best when they are in their natural environment. Play is a childs natural environment and the teaching staff at NFCNS recognize and respect that play must be the foundation from which everything flows.

Through a variety of structured and unstructured developmental activities, the goals of our child-centered program include:
Provide a safe, nurturing environment for young children to successfully manage separation.
Opportunities for exploration and learning in the cognitive, physical (fine and gross motor), social-emotional, self-help, and language domains of early development.
Foster competence and confidence in children of all differing learning styles and potentials.
Support opportunities for children to establish and maintain peer relationships, social skills, and master the basic principles of group dynamics.
Exposure to rich and novel activities that stimulate and encourage each childs imagination, exploration, senses, communication, and a better understanding of the world around them.
Collaboration with area elementary schools to ensure that all children entering Kindergarten are prepared to meet the expectations of their next school environment.
Open and reciprocal communication and partnership with families. NFCNS embraces and encourages a collaborative model of partnering with parents to support each childs individual developmental agenda.
