On any given day Green Tree classes can be found all over Seattle taking advantage of the wonderful opportunities the city has to offer.

From the time the children are toddlers, teachers take them on both planned and impromptu excursions. Our infant room enjoys taking walks around downtown.

Green Tree focuses on nurturing the whole child – heart, body, mind and spirit. The following is a list of just some of the exciting opportunities Green Tree offers to its children:
- fieldtrips (museums, science center, aquarium, zoo)
- outings (Pike Place Market, area parks)
- music and movement classes
- innovative open-ended art experiences,
- anti-bias, cultural awareness
- science and math
- regular visits to the library
- kindergarten readiness

Each classroom teacher uses observation paired with a strong understanding of child development theory to design a curriculum customized to the needs of the children in that class. The lessons and activities emerge with the child.

Green Trees philosophy is based upon three main
concepts that focus on development of the child
as a whole.

Child Centered Programs are developed to revolve around, respond to, and address the real needs of children. Direct observation of the children in each classroom combined with sound child development practices determines each classrooms curriculum.

Problem Solving We believe with guidance from trained, skilled teachers, children possess the ability to solve their own problems. By learning to use a problem solving process rather than simply finding a quick solution, both young and older children acquire life-long skills.

Anti-bias Anti-bias curriculum encourages children to notice and discuss cultural, ethnic, class, gender and other differences. Our goal is to teach children to think critically and enable children to identify stereotypes and discrimination and to react empathetically.
