Children’s Village Montessori School brings two styles of learning to the children, Montessori and traditional. A Montessori education works to create a love of learning, a love of others and a love of oneself. This enables the child to develop what is best in himself in order to become the person he is to be. The catch-all definition of this method is: hands-on, concrete, developmentally appropriate activities based on the premise of choice. The child has, by this element of choice, a vested interest in his own education. This fosters within the child his innate love of learning the world around him.
Children’s Village Montessori School modifies this curriculum in two ways. The first, in the traditional sense, Montessori begins at the age of three or post potty training. We modify the traditional curriculum to include our younger students. For our toddlers we provide experiences to promote language development and the independence of work within a community setting. This leads to the critical goal of potty training! Once a child has become potty trained, his mind can be free from the constant concentration of the body and move to the world beyond himself.
The second way we modify Montessori is by gearing it for the working parents. Our “Montessori” time is the center of our morning activities. those activities are before lunch and are developed by our students’ primary teacher. During Montessori time, parents will see the children working on individual projects and moving forward as an individual. We term this as “work”. These activities meet the needs of the individual.
Outside Montessori time, these activities are typical of other preschool programs where children are still offered choices by learn through free play of more contemporary toys. During the afternoon, parents will see all of the children participating in the same activity. These activities meet the needs of the individual within a community setting. Examples of those are music and movement, creative play, art and crafts. Lunch, nap and recess also fall under this realm.

The philosophy of education in Children’s Village Montessori School is based on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori as she developed it in her Children’s Houses. Montessori education is both a philosophy of child growth and a rationale for guiding such a growth. It is based on the child’s developmental needs for freedom within limits and a carefully prepared environment which guarantees exposure to materials experiences through which a child can develop his/her intelligence, as well as his/her physical and psychological abilities. It is designed to take full advantage of the self-motivation and unique ability of children to develop their own capabilities. The child needs adults to expose him/her to the possibilities of his/her life, but the child himself/herself must direct his/her response to those possibilities.
