The new Manhattan Catholic Childcare Center serves students that attend Manhattan Catholic Schools. Kim Chrest, KDHE Licensed Childcare Program Director, will head the program and be lead teacher for the 4 year old students that require all-day care in room 112. She will work in cooperation with Katie Sandmann, our new Pre-K teacher for Manhattan Catholic Schools.
All -day care includes lunch, snack, two half-hour recess periods, naptime, playtime, and educational enhancement of the Pre-K curriculum.
The center will serve students from grades K-5 for an after school program in the school library. Susan Carroll will continue to lead these groups of children with the same activities and plans we have had in the past. Students will receive a snack, have a homework period, go to recess and have selected activities provided for the students.

We believe that children learn through active, concrete exploration and interaction with the environment. The curriculum is based on childrens real life experiences and interests. Developmental activities planned for the children in the program are designed to provide a variety of challenges to meet their developmental needs. We encourage children to freely express their own ideas, to ask questions, and to use materials and activities to discover and create. We want to nurture the whole child, while recognizing that all facets of his/her being are integrated. The program and setting are designed to promote self confidence, independence, cooperation, and consideration.
We believe that when children are presented with a safe and healthy learning environment, optimum developmental levels will be attained. The principles and practices promoted by Manhattan Catholic Schools After School Program is based on and in support of NAEYCs developmentally age appropriate practices.
