Montessori Cottage began in
a small house in Morrisville
Pennsylvania in the year 2000.
With a lot of determination and
hard work Erin Conway and
Sandy Gayda created a loving
and nurturing classroom
environment in Erins home.
Nine families including their
own signed on the dotted line and became the first families of
Montessori Cottage. The first class was comprised of children ages 15
months to 5 years all working together to learn play and have lots of
fun!

At the end of that first year it was time to search for a more
permanent place for the school. Searching for just the right place
became another full time job. But finally a diamond in the rough was
found. In September of 2001 Montessori Cottage opened its doors at
its new location in Fallsington Pennsylvania. After countless hours
of painting building scrubbing organizing sweating and much
anticipation Montessori Cottage welcomed 25 families to the school.
And the rest is history!

Each year we grow and learn but are happy to remain the small
quaint little school in the historic town of Fallsington that we always
envisioned. We appreciate the strong family community that develops
each year as we welcome everyone each September. We truly hope
that Montessori Cottage becomes a place where both your child and
your family feel part of a community during this special time in your
childs life.

Montessori is a method of teaching developed
by Dr. Maria Montessori in the early 1900s.
Dr. Montessori a physician turned educator
used her scientific and biological background
while observing children with special needs.
She in turn developed a method of teaching which encompassed the
whole child. Her philosophy is that each child innately knows what
they are ready to learn and if given the appropriate environment the
child would be drawn to activities for which s/he is ready. Because no
two children are exactly alike a Montessori environment allows for
each child to learn at his or her own pace. The Montessori classroom
is created to meet the childs developmental needs. Montessori classes
are multi-age within three years.
