Sounds and Colors is a dream come true. Since Martha Giraldo-Rockaway was going to school to become a teacher, she always dreamt about having her own school. The time has come!

With more than twenty years of experience in the field of education, and after having taught in her home country, Colombia, and in her current home, North Carolina, Martha is ready to open her school. Teaching is her passion and this is what Martha has done as the core of her career.

From classroom teacher to teacher trainer, Martha has been able to explore different dimensions of this field focusing primarily in early language learning and language immersion. Inspired by her daughter Isabel, Martha has devoted hundreds of hours studying early childhood education principles and theories, and after many years she is convinced that happiness drives development. If children are placed in an environment that fosters happiness, learning occurs in a very natural way, Martha says.

Under these premises, and after having had the opportunity to join an international study group in Reggio Emilia, Italy, where she spent significant time studying the Reggio Emilia approach, and visiting the Infant-toddler Centers and Preschools of Reggio Emilia, Martha is determined to continue creating her own pedagogical approach which in a way is going to be greatly influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy.

Sounds and Colors is proud of bringing Martha as the leader of this educational project. Her child perspective, knowledge, and expertise will fill our school with learning and happiness.
Martha has a bicultural and multilingual family and she loves the challenges and the joy that this represents to her life.
